Water Too Hot

Does your water come out boiling hot to the point of scalding? This usually means the thermostat is set too high or it has malfunctioned. This is usually an easy problem to fix—lower the thermostat setting to around 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If this adjustment doesn’t resolve the issue, call in an experienced plumbing service to fix your thermostat.

Cold Water

Getting ice-cold water out of your faucets is a clear sign of a water heater malfunction. The possible culprits behind this problem include a faulty thermostat, a failing heating element, or a lack of power. It is easy to know what’s causing these issues through elimination. A good starting point is to check if the circuit breaker is tripped and reset it. If circuit breakers aren’t the issue, check the power switches and the thermostat to see if it’s set correctly. However, if all of these components are in good working order, the problem could be a malfunctioning heating element. Call a professional plumbing repair service to fix the heating element rather than trying to fix it yourself.

Rust Colored Water

This is a common indication of a corroded hot water tank. There’s a good chance the anode rod is worn out and needs to be replaced. If left unaddressed, tank corrosion will lead to leaks. Another possible sign of a corroded tank is awful-smelling and metallic-tasting hot water. Calling in a professional plumbing company for water heater replacement will save you money in the long run. The team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing is here to help you fix water heater leaks and other issues.

Leaks

A leaking water heater should be addressed as quickly as possible to prevent water damage. Water heater leaks can be attributed to loose connections, a cracked hot water tank, a faulty T&P valve, a bad gasket, and more. The first thing to do when you notice a water heater leak is to inspect the inlet and outlet pipes. If the fittings are loose, tighten them to contain the leak. For the other issues (cracked tank, bad gasket, and faulty T&P valve), call an experienced plumber to perform an inspection and make repairs.

Odd Noises

Not all noises indicate malfunctioning when it comes to water heaters. For instance, a humming sound when your water heater is operating is normal. Also, an occasional crackling sound in gas-powered water heaters shouldn’t be a cause for alarm. However, abnormal noises such as popping, sizzling, screeching, and rumbling noises indicate a problem with your water heater. Call a professional plumbing company for water heater repair before the issue escalates and results in expensive repairs.

Age

A conventional storage tank water heater can last up to 12 years, while a tankless unit can last a bit longer. If your water heater has reached the end of its lifespan, call Mr. Rooter Plumbing for water heater replacement.
